A Call for Participants
If you are currently working in a South Australian Primary School we would love to chat with you. All eligible participants who complete the interview will be financially compensated $50 for their participation.
Researchers within University of South Australia’s Education Futures are inviting South Australian Primary School Teachers, Principals, Deputy Principals, School Counsellors, Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Officers to participate in an interview exploring responses to children’s problematic sexual behaviours (PSBs) in school.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (RCIRCSA) examined child sexual abuse in Australian Institutional settings and found schools to be a critical setting, with a large number of children themselves displaying PSB. Currently, Australian primary school teachers report feeling ill equipped to respond to the needs of children with severe or persistent PSB while ensuring the safety of other school children. There remains an urgent need to develop effective early intervention strategies and responses to support children who are displaying or are effected by the behaviour.
This project hopes to examine whether a more collaborative approach that connects teachers with other key responders can be developed to better meet children’s safety and wellbeing needs.
We are seeking appropriate volunteers to participate in an interview to help provide a better understanding of how teachers and other relevant Primary School staff are currently responding to children displaying PSB, including key challenges and gaps.
Interviews will take place via zoom, telephone, or in-person and will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. All eligible participants who complete the interview will be financially compensated $50 for their participation.
You are invited to participate in the interview if you are currently working in South Australia as a Primary School Teacher, Principal, Pastoral Care Officer or Counsellor (including Wellbeing Officer).
If you are not the right person for this study, please feel free to share this invitation with others who may suit the criteria. Alternatively, if you are unsure whether you meet the criteria, please contact the project’s researchers.
If you are interested in participating in an interview, please contact Dr Lesley-Anne Ey at [email protected] or Dr James Herbert at [email protected] under the subject heading: PSB Interview Participation.
